Fun Friday- Two Months of Giveaways, week 6!

Welcome to week 6 of our two months of giveaways!  And GUESS WHAT..now we have THREE months planned!  I'm so excited!  Thank you for joining us for the fun, friends!

This week's addition...

Oh my word!  Could that little boy be any cuter?  As soon as I saw that little freckled face I knew I wanted to own this book.  I always thought we would have a redhead in this family, but I guess it wasn't in God's plan.  Look below at the two younger ones he blessed us with.  Not readheads, but equally as cute, don't ya think? ;)

Back to the book!  Rufus and Ryan Go to Church, a sweet little boardbook written by Kathleen Bostrom, is about a little boy named Ryan and his stuffed monkey named Rufus. Together they attend church!  Each page introduces an aspect of the church experience such as singing, praying and listening quietly, and how Ryan experienced it.  So cute!  Rufus and Ryan Go to Church is just one in a new series of books for preschoolers that teaches kids about basic church and Christian concepts at a level just for them.

And do you want to know the best part?  God's timing!  This little gem arrived on a Saturday, just in time for us to have our youngest child, 6 years old, take it to church with him.  We are now attending a church where he is in service with us.  While I love this practice, it has taken some time to settle into a routine and train him on what is expected of him.  At an earlier age he was in church with us every Sunday, but for the past three years he attended Children's church.  It has been a slightly challenging transition.   This book was a perfect addition to our "toolbox" of activities we feel are age appropriate for him at this time.  He was able to quietly read the book to himself, struggling over only a couple of words.  While I would not encourage reading other books during the service, I feel like this one is acceptable for him at this time and is teaching him what to expect in church and how to behave appropriately.  The one challenge- Rufus and Ryan get snacks and juice after service, we don't- and CJ wanted to know why!  haha

Outside of church he has still enjoyed reading the book himself and we have used it as a read loud a few times and even talked big brother into joining in!  Keep in mind, the book is intended for 2-5 year olds, but I don't think it ever hurts to make reading a family event!

Kathleen Long Bostrom is a published children’s author in both the Christian and trade markets. She has a Master’s in Christian Education and a Doctorate of Ministry in Preaching, and she has worked in children’s ministry for many years. Kathy and her husband, Greg, have three grown children and live in Illinois.

Rufus and Ryan Go to Church can be purchased for $7.99 from Ideals Publications or...we are excited to be able to offer one of our readers a chance to win this adorable book!  Just enter the rafflecopter below...this one will be open for TWO weeks!  This is a perfect book for a birthday or Christmas gift or to donate to a church nursery or preschool!

Blessings,

  1. We too are faced now with our 6 year old attending the service with us at our Church. It was quite the adjustment for her as well as us. We are encouraging her and working with her to participate in worship and take notes etc. Just one of those "new stages" in life to work through! It is AMANZING though how much she absorbs from worship at just 6, especially when we feel she is not even paying attention much!

    1. Teresa, on my pinterest, under family I think, there is a link to kids worship notes pages. They have been very helpful for us. I think there is a book as well. I love family worship but we have to remember that kids have to learn how to "do" it all for sure!

  4. I think it's great when children stay in service and not go out to church school. Children learn a surprising amount when staying in service.
